An optimal interpolation scheme for producing a DEM from the automated stereo-matching of full-scale SPOT images

چکیده
Eight interpolation methods are implemented and tested over a 60 km × 60 km region in Korea, using the results from automatic stereo-matching of SPOT images. First, with the simulated elevation data from digitised contours of paper maps, Kriging and Multiquadric methods show higher performance: with the accuracy better than 3 m than other methods and the speed of ~400 s on a Sparc 20 machine. Second, in a realistic case when the elevation derived from SPOT images is used, Kriging and Gaussian perform better than other methods by 1 to 5 m in terms of accuracy. Due to the errors in the SPOT stereo-match output, Gaussian appears to perform better than Kriging. As a third experiment, we consider large regions of matchfailure due to cloud cover, image skewness, and grey-value differences. To prevent interpolation on these regions, a ‘centre-of-gravity’ within each search region of interpolation is used as a rejection criterion.

Automated Dem Extraction from the Kompsat-1 Eoc Images
This paper reports experiments carried out for DEM extraction from the KOMPSAT-1 EOC images. The KOMPSAT-1 is the first Korean remote sensing satellite launched in December, 1999. It has a high-resolution (6.6m) earth imaging sensor (EOC) and a sensor for ocean color monitoring (OSMI). The focus of this paper was to develop appropriate algorithms for DEM generation from the EOC images and to an...

SPOT-5 and Cartosat-1 are mapping satellites with high resolution and along-track stereo capability. This paper describes the work carried out towards the qualitative and quantitative comparison of the Digital Elevation Models (DEM) derived from stereo pairs of SPOT-5(HRS1 and HRS-2) and Cartosat-1(Fore and Aft) over the test site located in Bavaria, Germany. This is one of the test areas selec...
متن کاملAutomated Dem Extraction of Urban Areas from Multi Resolution Satellite Images
This paper reports experiments carried out for automated extraction of a digital elevation model (DEM) from satellite images. In particular, this paper focuses on DEM extraction from dense urban areas where there are occlusions, shadow and height discontinuities. These properties have been known to create many problems in stereo matching and for automated DEM extraction. Using satellite images ...

متن کاملElevation Extraction and Object Recognition from Aerial Stereo Images
Stereo image matching is to find conjugate points on overlapping images pair, i.e., search for the same image pixels of a ground point on the left and right images. When the image orientation parameters are known, the 3D (X,Y,Z) coordinates of the ground point can be calculated. This process is the core part of DEM (Digital Elevation Model) generation in digital photogrammetry. Research on this...
